Coconut Oil and Weight Loss

For over four decades, coconut oil has had a poor reputation due to the high content in saturated fat. Yet, in the Tropics coconut is a primary area of the islanders’ diet for a large number of years but still remains so now. Studies also demonstrate lower rates of obesity and cardiovascular disease among these people at the same time. So why was best coconut oil shunned for all those years?
In the 70’s and 80’s wrong studies were done that led to the final outcome that coconut oil was way too full of saturated fat and needs to be prevented. What their error was is the fact that they did these studies on oil that is partially hydrogenated coconut, not organic. When natural oil is hydrogenated, it turns and shifts into a Trans fat. Trans fats are unhealthy for you personally and needs to be prevented at any cost due to the fact that they can lead to heart problems and increase cholesterol levels.
Though it is high in saturated fat, what people fail to understand is that not all fats would be the same. All the foods and oils we use are composed of long-chain fatty acids (LCFAs) or long-chain triglycerides (LCTs). The body not readily breaks down the big molecules in LCTs and end up being stored as fat. These big molecules also are what clog the arteries and lead to cardiovascular disease as well as high cholesterol. To the contrary, best coconut oil consists of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) or medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). The molecules are smaller and are easier to digest and instantly converted into energy and burned off.
